Operating in a truly global market, yards compete for contracts within and outside their own countries. This early and comprehensive exposure to the forces of globalisation makes shipbuilding substantially different from most other manufacturing industries. While these are effectively covered by existing multilateral trade rules, shipbuilding, due to its own characteristics, is not easily amenable to the application of those rules. CESA regularly takes formal functions at various international trade organisations such as OECD, UNCTAD, WTO and other institutions and leads industry delegates in bilateral trade missions on international trade policies related to shipbuilding.
